About the game:
Status: Freeware
Programmed in: Qbasic (and compiled)
This game is based on the popular board game Boggle(TM) by Parker
Brothers. You play the computer -- this is a one-person-only
game. It is text-based, which means it has no fancy graphics,
and that it runs easily and fast even on old systems, although you
need Windows 95 or better to extract the downloaded file. One of its
features is that it "learns" as you play with it. It comes with
a dictionary to which it will add any new words you find that it doesn't
yet know. In fact the existing dictionary bundled with this game was
built up from scratch in just this fashion. So while its
existing 6000+ words are enough to make the computer a cometitive
player, it is not a complete dictionary by any means. This can
also work against you if you carelessly allow it to add misspelled
or illegal words to its dictionary. Once added, the computer
considers a word legal to find in future games. If you
want to edit, or even build up the game's dictionary from scratch, you can
edit the existing dictionary with any text editor or word-processor.
This dictionary is spread out over eight different files named:
word1.txt, word2.txt ... word8.txt. It is important to
never delete these files, or the game will not work. If
you want the dictionary to start from scratch, don't delete the files,
but instead use a text editor to delete their contents.
That is -- open them up, and delete any or all words in them,
but leave the empty file still in its place.
